Corporal is not just a rank. It is the doorway to the NCO Corps. Corporals have established themselves as having leadership potential and worthy of consideration as a future Squad Leader. Requirements for this rank depend on if you go SFOD-D, 82nd, 160th, and Delta Squadron. 82nd, 160th, Delta Squadron requirements: 1) Two (2) months Time In Grade as a PFC or one (1) month as a SPC 2) Graduate from Warrior Leadership Course (WLC) 3) Demonstrated proficiency in missions 4) Participates in Squad and DMOS activities at a level of excellence 5) Ability to conduct Fire Team training as directed by the Squad Leader 6) Selected as a Fire Team Leader or 2IC SFOD-D requirements: 1) Graduate from Phase IV - MOS Training 2) Participates in Squadron and DMOS activities at a level of excellence 3) Positively participates in the Forums 4) No significant lapse in activity levels |

The rank of Sergeant is the entree to a hallowed fraternity. Sergeants run the Army, of that there can be no doubt. A Sergeant is a proven leader and can lead a Squad, as well as serve as NCOIC of a DMOS. The Sergeant is where the axe meets the stone. Requirements for this rank depend on if you go SFOD-D, 82nd, 160th, and Delta Squadron. 82nd, 160th, Delta Squadron requirements: 1) Two (2) months Time In Grade as a SPC or one (1) month as a CPL 2) Graduate from Warrior Leadership Course (WLC) 3) Demonstrated proficiency in missions 4) Important part of Squad and/or DMOS activities 5) Ability to write FireTeam or Squad Reports 6) Ability to conduct Fire Team or Squad training 7) Recommendation from Platoon Leader SFOD-D requirements: 1) Graduate from Phase V - Combined Arms Training 2) Pass Special Forces Board Review 3) Assigned to an ODA 4) Important part of ODA and DMOS activities 5) Contributes in ODA and DMOS activities 6) Ability to write Unit Reports |

The Staff Sergeant is the first level of Senior NCO. He is a proficient and reliable Squad Leader. His leadership is crucial to the health of the Unit. Not only does the Staff Sergeant excel in Squad leadership, he also shows the ablility to assist the Platoon Sergeant or even serve as one if called upon. Requirements for this rank depend on if you go SFOD-D, 82nd, 160th, and Delta Squadron. 82nd, 160th, Delta Squadron requirements: 1) Four (4) months TIG as a SGT 2) Demonstrate success as a Squad Leader 3) Shows Leadership in all areas 4) Ability to assist Platoon Sergeant as necessary 5) Recommendation from Platoon Leadership SFOD-D requirements: 1) Two (2) months TIG as a SGT 2) Demonstrated proficiency in missions 2) Has shown ability to assist in detailed MOS mission reports 3) Ability to give briefings on upcoming mission 4) Ability to train new recruits in their MOS 5) Ability to teach the ODA important aspects of their MOS 6) Recomendations from ODA Command |

The Sergeant First Class is the Platoon level NCO. He has proven himself not only an excellent Squad Leader in the past, but also an effective Platoon Sergeant. He has become a force to be reckoned with inside the Company and a trusted advisor and counselor to all junior NCOs and Soldiers. Sergeant First Class is the very definition of a "Senior NCO". Requirements for this rank depend on if you go SFOD-D, 82nd, 160th, and Delta Squadron. 82nd, 160th, Delta Squadron requirements: 1) Four (4) months TIG as a SSG 2) Demonstrate success as a Squad Leader and a Platoon Sergeant 3) Shows Leadership in all areas 4) Ability to assist First Sergeant as necessary 5) Recommendation from Platoon Leadership SFOD-D requirements: 1) Three (3) months TIG as a SGT 2) Demonstrated proficiency in missions 3) Has shown great ability to assist in detailed MOS mission reports 4) Ability to give detailed briefings on upcoming mission 5) Ability to give detailed briefings on their MOSs Jobs for a mission 6) Ability to train new recruits in their MOS 7) Ability to teach the ODA important aspects of their MOS 8) If not 18F, ability to assist the 18F as necessary 9) If 18F, ability to assist the 18Z in training of ODA 10) If 18F, ability to assist the 18Z in writing a mission plan 11) Recomendations from ODA Command 12) Recomendation for 18F comes from ODA Command |

The rank of Master Sergeant says it all: Master of the art of leadership. The Master Sergeant serves as the principal NCO in staff elements at company and often higher levels. Although not charged with the enormous leadership responsibilities of the First Sergeant, the Master Sergeant is expected to dispatch leadership and other duties with the same professionalism and to achieve the same results as the First Sergeant. Requirements for this rank depend on if you go SFOD-D, 82nd, 160th, and Delta Squadron. 82nd, 160th, Delta Squadron requirements: 1) Ten (10) months Time In Service (TIS) 2) Demonstrated success at all levels of NCO leadership 3) Is the example to be followed in all areas 4) Ability to assist the Command Staff where necessary 5) Recommendation from the Officers of Command Staff SFOD-D requirements: 1) One (1) year Time In Service (TIS) 2) Demonstrated excellence in leadership 3) Demonstrated excellence in writing detailed MOS mission reports 4) Demonstrated excellence in giving briefings on upcoming mission 5) Demonstrated excellence in training of ODA 6) Demonstrated excellence in writing a mission plan 7) Recomendations from ODA Command |

When you are talking about the First Sergeant you are talking about the lifeblood of the Army. There can be no substitute of this position nor any question of its importance. When First Sergeants are exceptional, their units are exceptional, regardless of any other single personality involved. Perhaps their rank insignia should be the keystone rather than the traditional diamond. It is the First Sergeant at whom almost all unit operations merge. The First Sergeant holds formations, instructs platoon Sergeants, advises the Commander, and assists in training of all enlisted members. Requirements for this rank depend on if you go SFOD-D, 82nd, 160th, and Delta Squadron. 82nd, 160th, Delta Squadron requirements: 1) One (1) year Time In Service (TIS) 2) Ability to assist the Company Commander or serve in his absence 3) Ability to write Company Reports in lieu of the Company Commander 4) Ability to actively participate in Command Staff activities and forums 5) Sets the standard of excellence in leadership throughout the Unit 6) Demonstrated reputation of success as a Squad Leader and/or Platoon Sergeant 7) Ability to assist First Sergeant as necessary 8) Recommendation from the Commanding Officer of the Company SFOD-D requirements: 1) Sixteen (16) months TIS 2) Ability to assist the Squadron Commander or serve in his absence 3) Ability to write Squadron Reports in lieu of the Squadron Commander 4) Ability to actively participate in Command Staff activities and forums 5) Sets the standard of excellence in leadership throughout the Squadron 6) Demonstrated reputation of success as a Operations Sergeant and/or Unit Leader 7) Ability to assist Sergeant Major as necessary 8) Recommendation from the Commanding Officer of the Squadron |
